ES council agrees to changes, upgrades
Assorted city business regarding changes and improvements was handled by the Excelsior Springs City Council during its recent meeting.
Nate Williams, director of Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation and Community Center, presented two considerations of change for community center projects.
Williams proposed bathroom partitions be replaced throughout the community center building at a total cost of $35,203, which the council unanimously approved.
The director requested other changed to the project, including allowing for a new storm fix, dome coordination along with mechanical and electrical gains, gate modifications and anew mark up for a walkway to be installed. The consideration would also add storage building modifications at the community center. The council agreed to the change, at a total cost of $45,237.
Moving forward The Council voted to appoint Mike McCoy to the Westside Community Improvement District board, replacing Kayla McCauley, for the term ending September 30, 2027.
Public Works Director Chad Birdsong asked the council to consider upgrading the lift control stations at the Lake Maurer and Prathersville locations, to which the council agreed.
At a total cost of $19,210.00, the upgrade would aid in avoiding having to reset the old control station throughout the week. Presently, each time the control stations fail, alarms are set off sending crews out to correct the problem multiple times each week.
“The old controls are rendered obsolete,” said Birdsong, noting there is no fix without an upgrade.
The council also agreed to a request by Birdsong to have engineering services survey pavement conditions and conduct an assessment report. The assessment would entail a detailed evaluation of roadways, curbs and sidewalks to be conducted with an 81-mile digital scan of the existing street system throughout Excelsior Springs. The cost of the proposal agreement would conclude at a total of $48,615.60 solely to determine future funding needed for repair, upgrades or replacements of the city’s road conditions.
Excelsior Springs Economic Development Director Melinda Mehaffy gave a brief presentation on the economic developments of fiscal year 2022. She explained much good has come from the city’s hard work.
Some of the projects include revisions to the city’s zoning code and the demolition of the power plant at Wayman, along with other various community developments projects still underway. The three main goals of the community development department are a focus on improving place focusing on creating good jobs and focus on opportunities.
Concluding the meeting, Powell was thanked for her service to the city, as Mayor Pro-Tem Stephen Spear will soon lead Excelsior Springs.
