Excelsior Springs was only a handful of strokes shy of winning the Lafayette County Tournament last week. The Tigers finished third in the April 19 competition at the Higginsville Country Club, shooting a 247 – two strokes behind runner-up Oak Grove and four strokes behind team champion Knob Noster. Individual, best ball and scramble scores also were kept. Junior Jacob Schmidt was Excelsior Springs’ top individual finisher, shooting an 80 and placing third overall. Senior Ryan Gluhm and sophomore Landon Biermann finished second in best ball team play, shooting an 80. Junior Gage Simmons and sophomore Tayvion Kennedy tied for third in the team scramble, shooting an 87. TRIANGULAR After the tournament, the Tigers played Harrisonville and Summit Christian Academy in an April 20 triangular at Hoot’s Hollow at Country Creek Golf Club.
