A house fire in downtown Excelsior Springs was deemed a complete loss for a local family.

The Excelsior Springs Fire Department received the call at about 4 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, of a house fire on 109 N Thompson Ave, right behind the Slightly Off Broadway Theater.

Kearney and Liberty Fire Department’s also assisted in extinguishing the blaze.

“We spent quite a while putting hot spots out,” said Excelsior Springs Fire Chief Joe Maddick, noting the fire was under control by about 5:30 p.m.

Maddick said there would be no investigation into what started the fire, as there was nothing suspicious noted.

The blaze at the home was able to be contained enough so that no other buildings were damaged, he noted.

It seemed nothing could be salvaged from the fire, Maddick said. Community members have begun donating clothes, bedding, and other household items to the family, as they try to find a new place to live.
