ESHS club bowlers roll to title at Summit Lanes tournament
Excelsior Springs High School’s club bowling program found an extra reason to celebrate during the holiday season.
On Dec. 18, two teams representing the club competed in a tournament at Summit Lanes in Lee’s Summit. Excelsior Springs 1 – consisting of
Joshua Oldham, Andrew DeOrnellis, Olivia Smith, Brody Hurla and Colt Bowman – took the title by rolling a 2,166. Runner-up Lee’s Summit West finished with a 2,127.
Excelsior Springs 2 – consisting of
David Falconer, Cole Dickey, Olivia Deer, Quinlynn Smith and Kamdyn McAndrews – placed fifth among the 16 teams with a 1,935.
For the first round, Excelsior Springs 1 defeated Lee’s Summit 186-161 and Excelsior Springs 2 fell to Lee’s Summit North 1 165-148.
Both Excelsior Springs teams were victorious in the second round, with Excelsior Springs 1 defeating Staley 158-137 and Excelsior Springs 2 topping Oak Park 1 173-131. The two teams faced each other in the third round, with Excelsior Springs 2 defeating Excelsior Springs 1 195-176.
In the fourth round, Excelsior Springs 1 beat Van Horn 217-178 and Raymore-Peculiar edged Excelsior Springs 2 159-158. The fifth round also was a split for Excelsior Springs, with Excelsior Springs 1 thumping Park Hill 201-137 and Excelsior Springs 2 falling 189-126 to Lee’s Summit.
Both teams, however, won in the next round. Excelsior Springs 1 downed Lee’s Summit West 235-173 and Excelsior Springs 2 defeated Fort Osage 191-110.
Both teams also won in the seventh round. Excelsior Springs 1 defeated a combined Oak Park/Staley team 159-70. Excelsior Springs 2 topped Savannah 188-160.
Next, Excelsior Springs swept its eighth-round matches. Excelsior Springs 1 dominated Plattsburg 242-134. Excelsior Springs 2 beat Lee’s Summit North 2 225-174.
Both teams won in the ninth round, too, with Excelsior Springs 1 defeating Oak Park 189-168 and Excelsior Springs 2 topping Lee’s Summit West 193-174.
Excelsior Springs got swept in the final round. Excelsior Springs 1 fell to Fort Osage 177-164. Excelsior Springs 2 fell to Park Hill 186-166.
