ESMS student brings unloaded firearms to school
The Excelsior Springs School District (ESSD) reported a concerning incident which occurred at Excelsior Springs Middle School on Sept. 7 when it was reported a student was carrying a weapon.
“At approximately 7:12 a.m., a middle school student reported to a teacher that another student may have had a weapon or gun in their backpack,” Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mark Bullimore said in a release sent to parents.
According to the release, the teacher immediately alerted administration and School Resource Officer (SRO) Kammrie Redwood was contacted. SRO Redwood along with administration secured the alleged student and separated them from their backpack.
“Three firearms were located in the backpack, but no ammunition was found,” stated Excelsior Springs Police Department (ESPD) Chief Gregory Dull.
The situation was contained before students were scheduled to enter the build- ing.
