THE CLAY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE is investigating a fatal plane crash that occurred just north of the Midwest National Air Center near Mosby. Deputies received a call just before noon on Aug. 27 reporting heavy smoke coming from a field near NE 140th Street and Rhodus Road. Upon arrival, deputies found a Cessna C340 fully engulfed in flames in a soybean field. At least two people were on board the aircraft. and have been confirmed deceased. Their identities have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.Preliminary information indicates the plane may have been attempting to land at the Midwest National Air Center after departing from an airport in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
