A woman found dead along Fredericksburg Road earlier this week is at the center of a hit-and-run investigation in Excelsior Springs after police said she was struck and killed by a vehicle that left the scene.On Nov. 12, at approximately 5:59 p.m., the Excelsior Springs Police Department received a 911 call reporting a body in the roadway in the 1000 block of Fredericksburg Road. Officers arrived within minutes and located a deceased female on the shoulder of the road. She has been positively identified as 35-year-old Mary Levingston of Kansas City.Preliminary findings indicate the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head consistent with being struck by a vehicle. The incident is being investigated as a hit-and-run. No suspect vehicle or driver has been identified at this time.The investigation remains active.
