FBI agent presents active shooter awareness
A Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Kansas City Office, made his way to Excelsior Springs to provide insight into active shooter situation awareness.
Special Agent Robert Gunderson shared his knowledge on active shooter situations during the latest Excelsior Springs Chamber Luncheon. The FBI defines an active shooter as an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area, he said.
“This does not include gang or drug-related shootings, domestic violence shootings and gun-related incidents such as an accidental discharge,” he added. The most at-risk areas for active shooter incidents include businesses open to pedestrian traffic, open spaces, schools and government properties.
Before attending a public event, Gunderson said it is important to speak to family members, including children, should an active shooter situation arise.
