Harvesters Community Food Network continues to supply the weekly food line serving mostly residents of Ray and Clay counties, but not easily. The food line at the Salvation Army Family Store in Richmond had been serving about 500 people once per month prior to the COVID-19 contagion, but Director Phil Powers said the number now exceeds 800 people per week. “Our highest has been 1,100, but the lowest has been about 850,” Powers said. “The numbers are pretty consistent … between 850 and 950.” The Orrick food center has reopened, which may relieve some pressure on Richmond, he said. “Hardin is not going to open for another month,” Powers said. “We’ll keep up, as long as we have the food and as long as people volunteer.” Powers said the operation relies on Harvesters to feed the need.
