Barbeque enthusiasts came to witness the 23rd annual Barbeque Fly-In on the River Festival in Excelsior Springs. Over 50 teams participated in the event, endorsed by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) and hosted by the Downtown Excelsior Partnership group (DEP). Mayor Mark Spohn spoke on behalf of the event, thanking owners of Atlas Saloon Brewery and Wabash Barbeque, Jim and Sherri Mc-Cullough for their barbeque competition vision and for keeping their dream alive in the city. After the 23-hour event was held Executive Director of DEP Lyndsey Baxter thanked sponsors of the event. “Without all of the sponsors, their monetary donations and their in-kind donations, we would not be able to host this event,” she said. She also thanked committee volunteers who helped make the event successful, saying this was the best committee she has served on.
