Hash spearheads campaign to combat wintertime ennui

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Lindsey Hash said she hopes to help senior adults cope with the bleak days of winter during the coronavirus pandemic, particularly around the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Based at Excelsior Springs Hospital, Hash directs Senior Life Solutions, a program affiliated with the Tennessee-based senior mental health services company Psychiatric Medical Care. There are almost 100 SLS programs nationwide, Hash estimated Dec. 4 by phone. Through SLS, Hash is staging a public campaign to increase area awareness of emotional health problems seniors might face at this time of year. Those issues include seasonal affective disorder – or SAD, and sometimes called seasonal depression – and depression during the holidays that is compounded by isolation from loved ones.
