From beautiful feathers to their symbol of happiness, Missouri’s state bird is preparing to make a more populated appearance in the state. After being branded as a symbol of happiness, the Eastern Bluebird was officially designated as Missouri’s state bird in 1972 and is often referred to as a harbinger of spring. Eastern Bluebirds seem to favor Missouri’s rolling countryside, where they may be seen flitting about from fencepost to fencepost on any bright spring morning, according to the Missouri Department of Conversation (MDOC). “People who believe bluebirds are becoming rare may have moved from the country to the city or witnessed their local habitat become brushy,” states MDOC. “The removal of dead trees and branches for firewood or neatness continues to eliminate existing or potential nest cavities and if it were not for the many Missourians who maintain nesting boxes, bluebirds would probably be far worse off.” Bluebirds are secondary cavity nesters, meaning they use…
