One of the best-kept secrets that shouldn’t be a secret in Excelsior Springs is the services of the Job Corps. At a recent SAFE meeting, staff members at Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center (ESJCC) presented information about the program to inform the public. Job Corps provides free career training and education for persons who qualify and are between the ages of 16 and 24. “Candidates must meet low-income guidelines as well,” said ESJCC Director of Outreach Admissions and Career Transition Services Tammy Harrelson. “If they qualify for free or reduced lunch, food stamps or any government assistance, they automatically qualify financially for the program. They also must pass a background check and cannot have any violent felony convictions such as murder, child abuse or rape.” Candidates must also be United States citizens, not use drugs illegally under federal law and not exhibit behavioral problems that could prevent themselves or others from success. “There is no ideal…
