Key Club calls on community to support classmates

With 894 students scheduled to take state-required End of Course Exams, the Excelsior Springs High School (ESHS) Key Club is working to ensure classmates walk into testing carrying more than sharpened pencils and study guides. Through a community-wide donation effort, the student-led organization hopes to place a goody bag filled with encouragement into the hands of every student this spring.The idea for the initiative began earlier this year following another service project.“After completing Valentine cards in February, students began discussing how they could support their own peers during testing season,” said High School teacher Katrina Yoakum. “From that conversation, the idea for goody bags was born.”The effort will coincide with spring End of Course Exams across multiple subject areas at the high school.“This year, 894 students will take state assessments in Algebra, American Government, Biology, English I, and English I...
