Excelsior Springs has some new royalty. AnnaBella Kiprop, 9, was crowned Little Miss Waterfest and Brecken Broadaway, 5, was crowned Little Mr. Waterfest June 25 in downtown Excelsior Springs during the Waterfest celebration. Sponsored by Kalyn Goode, owner of My Momma Tried, this year’s pageant included eight contestants – six girls, two boys. All the contestants rode in a trolley in the Waterfest Parade before participating in the contest on the main stage. For the contest, they took to the stage, said their hellos, answered questions and told a joke or demonstrated another type of talent. For her talent, Kiprop did a backbend and kicked over. When asked why she wanted to be crowned, she replied, “I want to win to be closer to the community.” Broadaway told a joke for his talent.
