After the recent winter storm and with potential weather conditions in the future, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is urging residents to take precautions to reduce their risk of weather-related injuries. Winter weather can create many hazardous situations, including cold temperatures, power outages and unsafe travel conditions.Prolonged exposure to the cold can result in serious health issues, including frostbite, hypothermia and in extreme cases, death. Missouri recorded 37 hypothermia deaths in 2023 and provisional data for 2024 shows 38 hypothermia deaths.Stay indoors – Stay inside and if heat is not available, locate a warming center at Health.Mo.Gov/warmingcenters or call 211.Dress warm – Layer several loose-fitting clothing items, with the outer layer being a windproof and waterproof layer.
