EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The new superintendent of schools does not start work officially for several months, but that has not stopped Dr. Travis Hux, 44, from getting to know district employees. “I’m meeting with administrators, various teachers, things like that,” Hux said. “I’m just trying to start those interactions now and get to know the community.” Excelsior Springs hired Hux in mid-December. “I want to take advantage of this sixmonth period,” he said. “As a superintendent, it behooves you to begin those interactions and to start to do the listening and learning, so that when you start Day One you can hit the ground running.” EXPERIENCE As assistant superintendent in the Raytown School District for the past 12 years, Hux oversees operations there – an experience he said has helped prepare him for the top job with Excelsior Springs schools. “Operations is ‘beans, buildings, buses?...
