MoDOT plans permanent fix for ‘Sonic pothole’

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) plans to fix the recurring pothole on Missouri Highway 10 by the Sonic Drive-In sometime in August, according to Chad Birdsong, Excelsior Springs public works director.

Discussing the pothole during a July 29 work session at the Hall of Waters, Birdsong said his MoDOT contact had told him the timetable for fixing the chuckhole was pending assembling the equipment – and the personnel.

“MoDOT is in the same boat (as), if not worse than us, trying to keep workers,” he said.

Birdsong and others addressed gossip and doom-and-gloom opinions about the pothole, specifically those posted on social media. One item he addressed was whether the hole is a sinkhole or a pothole.

“It’s not a sinkhole,” he said. “There is no storm drain underneath it.”
