EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Excelsior Springs School District needs more substitutes, Deputy Superintendent Jaret Tomlinson said during the Sept. 13 Board of Education meeting. On average, the district needs between 12 and 15 a day, Monday-Thursday, and needs between 25 and 35 substitutes on Fridays, he said. “And all 25 don’t accept the job every time either,” Tomlinson said. “So we’re short. So we have unfilled substitute spots every day – and especially every Friday.” The lack of subs is “putting a strain on us,” Tomlinson said. To address the shortage, he recommended partnering with a substitute staffing agency and offered to draft a request for agencies to submit proposals.
