The Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has identified the body that was found at Rocky Hollow Park in Excelsior Springs on Dec. 22, 2023, as Gildardo H. Carvajal. Elena Del Carmen Flores-Garcia 48 of Kansas has been charged in Carvajal’s murder. She is facing three felony charges, including first-degree murder, armed criminal action and abandonment of a corpse. Carvajal, 53, of Kansas, was discovered in late December by the local Parks and Recreation staff and appeared to be water-logged in a ditch. When deputies found the body, his lower extremities were covered with black plastic bags and he seemed to have sustained blunt force trauma to his head, according to the probable cause (PC) statement. The statement reads, “An autopsy was performed by Forensic Medical of Kansas, which revealed a preliminary cause of death of multiple blunt force trauma and a preliminary manner of death as homicide.” Flores-Garcia’s daughter stated that her mother told her that she had to go to Mexico…
