Name given to new school in city
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – In a special Board of Education meeting, members considered one agenda item – naming the new elementary school that is going up at the intersection of Wornall and Lodwick.
A committee that met twice provided input to the board on possible names. After discus sion, the Board of Education voted 7-0 to adopt Cornerstone Elementary as the name of the building that will replace Westview Elementary School.
“Our elementary buildings are the cornerstone of our educational system. This new name conveys that message to our community,” board President Tray Harkins stated.
The public voted to fund the building by passing a bond issue, Proposition T, in June.
The elementary building is set to open next fall. The old Westview Elementary is being remodeled and converted into the Westview Early Childhood Center.
