National Crash Responder Safety Week announced
Nov. 13 marks the beginning of National Crash Responder Safety Week across Missouri, reminding drivers to follow the law and move over for traffic incident responders.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, traffic incidents are one of the leading causes of death for law enforcement officers and EMS responders, and the state released an urgent press release to remind people to abide by the move-over law to keep first responders safe when they respond to a traffic incident.
“During Crash Responder Safety Week, we urge all drivers to remember that our dedicated first responders are out there every day, working tirelessly to keep our roads safe,” said Missouri Department of Transportation’s (Mo-DOT) Safety and Emergency Management director Chris Engelbrecht.
“They risk their lives to protect us, so show respect, obey the state’s move-over law, avoid distractions, and slow down when approaching emergency vehicles on the road.”
