National Diaper Need Awareness Week observed locally

September 18-24 is Diaper Need Awareness Week in Excelsior Springs following the national observance. Mayor Mark Spohn recently signed a proclamation to draw attention to the issue of those struggling to purchase diapers for their children. National awareness began in 2012 when an initiative was launched through the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) to provide individuals, organizations, communities and elected officials an opportunity to ensure all babies have access to clean diapers and basic needs. According to NDBN, one in two United States families struggles to provide enough diapers to keep a baby or toddler clean, dry and healthy. “Many young families suffer from a lack of diapers.
