Neighborhood kindness set to receive recognition

Across Missouri, neighbors are displaying acts of kindness in observance of Good Neighbor Week to build better community connections with others. During Good Neighbor Week residents are urged to participate in suitable events and activities to create personal relationships with their neighbors. Organized and created by the University of Missouri (MU) Extension and the Hopeful Neighborhood Project, neighbors are encouraged to show kindness to their community and, more importantly, those who live next door. Laura Mize, neighborhood specialist, said National Good Neighbor Day is Sept. 28, but it was decided to extend it to an entire week in Missouri. According to Mize, the program’s benefits are to make a positive change in the community and to change the culture of driving a car into the garage, shutting the door and never seeing your neighbor. “Research has shown people who have connections in their neighborhoods are less likely to die of a stroke or heart disease,” Mize said. “It…
