New Missouri laws take effect in August

Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe has signed multiple new laws that will take effect in August, enacting sweeping changes across labor policy, transparency rules, environmental protection, utility safety and small business taxation.Among the most significant changes is the repeal of Missouri’s paid sick leave law and the establishment of a new minimum wage schedule that raises the hourly rate to $15 by 2026.House Committee Substitute No. 2 for House Bills 567, 546, 758 and 958 repeals Missouri Revised Statutes sections 290.600 through 290.642, eliminating all provisions related to earned paid sick time. The repealed sections had governed accrual rates, permitted uses, employer obligations, enforcement procedures and civil actions for violations.The act sets the minimum wage at $13.75 per hour beginning Jan. 1, 2025.
