■ PROP T PAYS FOR WORK ■ COST PUT AT $18 MILLION ■ FALL ’21 OPENING PLANNED EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Proposition T funds are being put to used to build a replacement for Westview Elementary School. Voters in June agreed 11,142 to 8,528 to spend $23.5 million to build a Westview replacement and make improvements to other buildings. At the Westview construction site at the corner of Wornall and Lodwick last week, construction crew leader Chuck Gibson said work began near the end of July. The ground has been mapped, rebar is in place and the first walls for the two story building are going up. “Work on the structure will be ongoing into the first part of October,” he said, depending on the weather. Also weather-dependent is the plan to have the building ready to occupy by this time next year, Gibson said. The district has placed the cost of the Westview replacement at roughly $18 million.
