EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The City Council amended the city code Tuesday to require landlords seeking business license renewals to submit tenant lists to the city’s Community Development Department annually.
The department’s neighborhood specialist, Laura Mize, lobbied for the amendment Feb. 1. City leaders discussed and then “tabled” the idea. They renewed discussion and approved the amendment Feb. 16.
Mize based support in part on the department’s success with monitoring rental property license renewals and inspections and requesting tenant lists from landlords.
“It’s really helpful for code enforcement,” she said. “It’s helpful for first responders, if they need that tenant information, because that’s not always going to be listed on the water accounts.”
Mize at the Feb. 1 meeting said other cities have this requirement.
