EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Elation collapsed into disappointment for Valley Manor Rehabilitation Center residents and staff after the yearlong virus lockdown ended Friday, only to resume Monday. When the doors opened last week, families got together for the first time in a long time. “Today, the whole entire climate of the nursing home just shifted back to where we were a year ago,” Manor Administrator Doreen Hasenbeck said Friday. But shockingly, she said, a resident tested positive for the virus Monday. “The resident had already had COVID and she was asymptomatic. We sent her out for … nothing to do with COVID, and she’d been vaccinated, so it was like, ‘What?’” Hasenbeck said. The woman had guests all day that Friday. “So, we notified the family, the family notified all the people that came to visit,” Hasenbeck said. “She’s not in our building (now).
