The hilly terrain of the back nine at Excelsior Springs Golf Course couldn’t stop Silas O’Dell when he ran there recently during the annual Excelsior Springs Cross Country Invitational.The senior negotiated the hills well enough to place 17th among 70 varsity boys runners at the Oct. 8 competition, finishing the 3.1-mile course in 20 minutes, 22.8 seconds. He was Excelsior Springs’ highest placer.O’Dell was among three Excelsior Springs varsity boys finishers. Juniors William Tade and Conrad Purnellcompleted the trio, with Tade placing 34th in 21:38.9 and Purnell finishing 40th in 22:08.Kirsten Stout led the Excelsior Springs varsity girls, taking 22nd out of a field of 52runners with her time of 24:56.7.
