During this month’s meeting of the Excelsior Springs City Council, the group voted to amend zoning regulations. Specifically, Chapter 400: Zoning Regulations was amended in order to establish District CH Cottage Housing Residential District. Excelsior Spring Planning Consultant Doug Hermes submitted the amendment. An ongoing goal of the Comprehensive Plan has been to continue to provide a variety of housing styles, types and price ranges for the community, according to the Planning and Zoning Community Development Department. During a study session in 2022, the Planning and Zoning Commission discussed the possibility of creating a new residential zoning district to allow for cottage housing-style developments.
