Plane crashes in soybean field
A Kansas man was pronounced dead on the scene of a Kearney plane crash last week.
Alan Doug Moler, 79, of Valley Center, was killed when the plane he was piloting crashed in a field near N.E. 150th Street and Cordell Street on July 20.
According to reports, Clay County Dispatch received a 911 call around 9:37 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, the plane was found to be fully engulfed in flames and resting in a soybean field.
It was determined Moler was the only person on board the plane.
“Immediately before the crash, the plane had taken off from the Midwest Regional Air Center, a Clay County-owned airport at 13106 Rhodus Road in Mosby, located a short distance from the crash scene,” said Clay County Sheriff’s Office Public Relations Manager Sarah Boyd. “The plane is a privately owned twin-engine Piper aircraft. It had just fueled up and had 140 gallons of fuel on board, which contributed to the fire.”
