Preservation efforts advance as funding concerns grow

Preservation efforts are moving forward in Excelsior Springs as local leaders balance recognition of historic improvements with concerns about proposed funding cuts that could disrupt future projects.The Historic Preservation Commission recently reviewed plans for exterior work and new signage while also celebrating property owners who invested in restoring significant buildings.Three Certificates of Appropriateness came before the commission for review. One project proposed exterior alterations at a property on South Kansas City Avenue. Two additional applications requested approval for signage, one on Spring Street and another on South Main Street. Commissioners examined supporting documents and heard reports about each proposal before advancing them through the approval process.Other updates focused on projects already cleared by staff.
