Prevention campaign targets parents, children
A regional media campaign for parents focusing on underage drinking and fentanyl prevention is being promoted by Excelsior Springs Substance Abuse-Free Environments (SAFE) and Parent Up of Tri-County Mental Health Prevention Network.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid which is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. Just traces of fentanyl it can be fatal for those who consume it.
Law Enforcement warned of the dangers of counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl that have been circulating, causing poisonings and deaths among teens and young adults around the region.
According to Parent Up, pills are being sold on social media and the black market with no regulation of any kind.
In association with fentanyl prevention, SAFE and Parent Up are campaigning for underage drinking noting that empowering parents can prevent youth substance use by caring, communicating and paying careful attention to youth.
