REAL ID enforcement deadline nearing
The May 7 deadline for the federal REAL ID enforcement is now less than four months away and the Missouri Department of Revenue (MDR) is urging residents to ensure they are prepared.Currently, only 41% of Missouri’s total document holders have a REAL ID.While a final federal rule allows agencies to implement a phased-in approach to card-based enforcement for up to two years beyond the deadline, state officials recommend Missourians plan for all possible scenarios.A Missouri-issued REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or ID card will feature a star in the upper right-hand corner. A noncompliant driver’s license or ID card will be marked with “NOT FOR REAL ID PURPOSES” in the same area location.Under Missouri law, obtaining a REAL ID is a personal choice.
