Missouri Nurses Association director warns, ‘Not yet,’ provides reasons for caution, description of COVID-19 death
JEFFERSON CITY – Being frustrated and wanting Missouri to reopen is understandable, but not reason enough to do so, Missouri Nurses Association Director Heidi Lucas, Jefferson City, said Wednesday.
“The vast majority of (studies) are saying that we are just beginning to get through – we should continue our shelter-in-place orders,” she said.
Past pandemics have shown that doing so works, Lucas said.
“It’s easy for folks to say that it’s not that bad here, when we have been in front of the curve,” she said. “It took a little bit for it to get over into Missouri from the coasts, and we started taking precautions – people started listening and staying at home. We’re at that point where, if we continue to stay home, we may just continue to not have very many cases and people will continue to say, ‘Look, it’s not that bad.’ But it’s really just because we’ve been following rules.”
