Excelsior Springs remains in Rep. Richey’s district; McGaugh retains Hardin
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Rep. Doug Richey, whose legislative district includes Excelsior Springs, will lose some constituents and gain others under the redistricting plan approved by the state House of Representatives late last month.
Rep. Peggy McGaugh will still lose much of Ray County, as reported previously, but got a bit more of the county than allowed under the original map.
“I did negotiate and retained Hardin and above 10 Highway to the Carroll County line,” she said Monday.
McGaugh’s new 7th House District consists of a diagonal line from Caldwell County on the north moving south through Ray County. The district takes in all of Linn, Livingston and Carroll counties.
“The population of the new district is estimated to be 38,628, which is within the top end of the 3% variance allowance for House districts, which is 37,760,” she said. “The loss of population in the rural areas and the shift of additional population in Clay...
