Richey files property tax relief legislation
State Rep. Doug Richey wants to help lower the bill for Missourians with delinquent property taxes.
In pursuit of that goal, the Excelsior Springsbased lawmaker has filed House bill 462, legislation to reduce the amount of late charges and interest that can be collected on overdue property taxes.
“All Missourians have felt the sting of their property tax bills, and that pain becomes even worse when they can’t afford to pay the bill on time,” Richey stated in a press release. “The fees and interest that get tacked on make an already difficult bill extremely harmful financially to many families. By putting some commonsense caps in place, we can ensure these extra charges are reasonable, so Missourians aren’t put in a situation of economic distress by an astronomically high property tax bill.”
