Road and Bridge District gears up to purchase equipment

The Excelsior Springs Road and Bridge District met recently to discuss their 2023-2024 fiscal year budget with plans to purchase a new dump truck for city use, at a cost of nearly $200,000. Chad Birdsong, public works director, elaborated on the subject, saying, “This year, we have an allocation for a dump truck.” The discussion about the new purchase has been ongoing for the past two years, and with the sale of the district’s 1998 Chevy swap loader for $10,500 and the upcoming sale of their 2002 international truck, he said, it’s time for an upgrade. “We went out to bid and looked at the Missouri Department of Transportation’s (MoDOT) state bid from Midway Ford,” Birdsong said. When he received the bid from the district for the new dump truck, the total cost would be $169,903. After Birdsong received the bid, he and Todd Wilson, construction foreman, went to speculate what the new truck had to offer the community and to identify if the vehicle had the proper hauling capabilities…
