Safe room rules, procedures shared

Cornerstone Elementary School recently conducted an open house to discuss safe room policies for public and school usage. Saferooms are created to save lives and provide free space for safety and saving lives for instances of minimum duration. The rooms are only intended in the event of high winds and tornadic activity and are not for long term needs. The saferoom will remain equipped to provide essentials to protect those seeking shelter including, water, basic sanitation, basic first-aid and some electricity, during severe weather. Use of the Cornerstone Elementary Saferoom is for those within a 1.5-mile radius of the facility. “Most safe rooms refer to the surrounding community at a half-mile, at maximum up to three-quarters of a mile,” said School Resource Officer Jeff Kimsey, “Making the radius of this facility larger than others,” said Kimsey.
