School board OKs bids to renovate childhood center

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The school district added another construction project to its to-do list. On March 8, the Board of Education approved bids to renovate Westview Elementary, to be known as the District Early Childhood Center. Slated to begin this summer, the work is priced at $1,919,352, Superintendent Dan Hoehn stated in a March 8 memo to district leaders. “The things that drove that bid up a little bit were timing, material costs,” Hoehn told district leaders, and added the heat, ventilation, air conditioning unit, or HVAC, at the center “is in poor, poor shape.” Hoehn’s memo stated HVAC work and “related system controls” would cost $342,996. An itemized breakdown in the memo priced work on the HVAC system alone at $280,306. The HVAC work is among three phases of the overall project priced at more than $200,000.
