School board OKs community center agreement

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Community Center and the Excelsior Springs School District have a win-win agreement, Deputy Superintendent Jaret Tomlinson said. The Board of Education approved the partnership Dec. 14. Per Tomlinson’s Dec. 3 memo, the partnership will provide a membership discount of $10 per month to “all district health-insured individuals,” with the center and the district covering the $10 benefit under a 50/50 split starting in August. “We were looking at about 10% (for the benefit),” Tomlinson told the board. “But it worked out to about $5 a month off of memberships, if the school district would match that, and also chip in $5 a month per insured person to try to get more of our employees to participate in the different programs that the community center offers.” During the meeting, Tomlinson clarified the benefit would include family members who are covered by an employee’s district insurance plan, in keeping with the center’s various membership programs.
