School board OKs conference switch for Tigers
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Since 2007, the Excelsior Springs School District has been a part of the Missouri River Valley Conference. But that will change in 2022.
On Feb. 8, the board voted unanimously to rejoin the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference, effective the 2022-23 school year. Excelsior Springs was a founding MRVC member in 1928 and stayed in the conference until joining the Suburban Conference in 1972. Over the past three to four years, the district has been in talks about rejoining the Suburban Conference.
Activities Director Joe Greim presented the board with benefits of switching.
“There wasn’t one factor when it came down to making this decision, but more of a culmination of factors,” Greim said. “Travel distance was one of the big factors for our kids and families, but the ability to form rivalries and the capabilities to draw bigger crowds are two very important factors in making this decision.”
