School district ‘at the mercy of supply’ in getting COVID-19 shots for personnel

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Getting school district employees vaccinated is “going to be challenging,” Superintendent Dan Hoehn said during the Board of Education’s online meeting. “We’re really kind of like everyone else,” Hoehn told the board. “We’re at the mercy of supply.” Hoehn reported on the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects on the district and introduced middle school Principal Ben Rubey, who reported on plans for returning to full-time, in-person instruction. Rubey provided feedback from middleschool personnel about when they would like students back in classes full time. “(Teachers) would at least like the opportunity to get vaccinated (to) feel more comfortable,” Rubey said. Hoehn advised the board to remember the district continues following the COVID protocol Clay County established. Whenever the district stages “certain events,” it must get county approval, he said during the Feb. 8 meeting.
