Schools await relief funds
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – School districts in Missouri will lose much-needed funding if the General Assembly does not act quickly, Superintendent Travis Hux warned when the Board of Education convened Feb. 14 at the Support Services Center.
The House has passed and sent to the Senate the state’s supplemental budget for 2022, Hux said. The bill includes Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief III funding, he said.
“Hopefully, they stay on track with that,” Hux said. “It’s got to be to us by the 24th (of March) or the money just gets sent to other states. It doesn’t go back to the federal government; it just gets redistributed out. So I hope we don’t lose $2 billion in the state of Missouri.”
Columbia Public Schools CFO Heather McArthur said 49 of 50 states have received the funding, the Columbia Missourian reported Feb. 10.
