Sept. 11 memories remain strong for local residents
Time has passed, but the memories of Sept. 11, 2001, remain vivid for Excelsior Springs-area residents who experienced that morning from Missouri to New York City and Washington, D.C.
To mark the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks and preserve personal accounts of the day, the Excelsior Springs Standard asked area residents to share their experiences. Their memories span a range of circumstances, from local workplaces and military service to close connections to the attack sites.

David Grace, who grew up in Excelsior Springs, was living in the New York area and working for TD Waterhouse Group at 39 Broadway, about 400 yards from the South Tower of the World Trade Center. His daily commute took him through the World Trade Center, where he would exit onto Liberty Street near a fire station.
