Sheriff Akin up for re-election in Clay County

In a recent press release, Will Akin, current Clay County Sheriff, announced his plan to pursue a second term as sheriff. So far, he is the only candidate to declare for the nonpartisan position. As a U.S Army veteran, husband and father, Akin has received accolades for his roles as a Parachute Rigger and Blackhawk helicopter pilot. Once he was honorably discharged, he moved into law enforcement and, in 2013, settled down in Clay County. “Serving Clay County has been an honor that I hope to continue for another four years,” stated Akin. “Under my leadership, we’ve seen strong public safety partnerships, improved collaboration with community partners and good recruitment rates. I hope to build upon these achievements to ensure Clay County remains a safe place to call home.” Over his term serving as sheriff, he has taken on roles such as a 911 communications manager, and he has taken part in community and media relations, crime analysis and emergency management.
