Sheriff’s office takes on domestic violence

HENRIETTA – There is no domestic violence shelter in Ray County, a plan to establish one fell through, but the Ray County Sheriff’s Office helped to raise awareness about abuse with an event Oct. 23 and socia media posts. Lori Young, Richmond, explained what occurred after she had tried for a few years to establish Chrysalis House to offer a place where abused women could take shelter and move their lives in a new direction. “We just had no community support at all,” Young said Monday. Young said, without community backing, nothing would emerge from the Chrysalis House plan. The closest domestic violence shelter remains at House of Hope in Lexington, which will provide help to abused people. In recognition of the month, Sheriff Scott Childers posted stories of abuse. “I know these stories are not enjoyable to read but we must talk about uncomfortable issues to make progress.
