Student Council debuts A Very Merry Movie Night

MIRANDA JAMISONA holiday crowd bundled in blankets and pajamas filled the Excelsior Springs High School commons as the student council (STUCO) hosted its first A Very Merry Movie Night. The new event brought families and students together for a seasonal evening built almost entirely by teenagers.The idea had been discussed for years inside STUCO meetings but never made it to the screen. According to student Josie Casler, the obstacle was not a lack of interest but the legal steps required to show a movie publicly.“Student council has been wanting to host a movie night event for a few years now, but we haven’t been able to organize one due to buying a license and the legality aspect required to show a movie to the public,” explained Casler. “This year, we had a gap in our event schedule and we thought that hosting a movie night would be a great event for our community.
