■ COVID-19 CAUSES DROP ■ COULD FALL $1M IN APRIL ■ CUTS MAY BE NEEDED LIBERTY – Revenue will fall far short of the mark, Clay County Treasurer Bob Nance predicted Monday. Presiding Commissioner Jerry Nolte said the situation requires the county to reduce spending. “What we should be doing is looking at what kind of discretionary spending we can suspend,” Nolte said. “The budget is overblown. We can certainly cut back on the attorneys’ fees. … That’s one place I’d be looking to cut immediately.” Commissioners Gene Owen and Luann Ridgeway have been using attorneys to fight part of the state review of county operations being conducted by Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway. She is doing the audit based on a petition signed by more than 9,000 county residents. Nolte favors giving Galloway the requested information. Nance said the county took in more than $2.8 million in tax revenue in April 2019, but this year’s April number could be down by $1 million, or nearly 36%. 2019 VS. 2020 …
