There’s an ongoing investigation headed by the FBI regarding a “suspicious package” left on Nike Base Road in Lawson.

Lawson Fire and Rescue and the Ray County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched Monday to the scene. The Kansas City Bomb Squad also was deployed to the scene.

Dixon Land, FBI Kansas City’s public affairs specialist, said that “there is no threat to the public” and that the FBI isn’t releasing any additional information at this time.

Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers also is involved with the investigation and had no information to share as of press time. This newspaper will continue its coverage as this story develops.
